Sports Massage

A sports massage is typically for those that are involved in training and or competing in a sport.  Typically sports massages are quite rigorous.  Some of the main reasons sports massage is utilised are listed below:

Prehabilitation/General Maintenance

  • Sport and exercise can place excessive and repetitive stress on the body. Unaddressed these repetitive stresses can manifest as injuries.  Getting a massage for Prehabilitation is a very smart way to proactively keep the body in good condition. Receiving regular massage on the body can be like a regular service for the car, for the body it can help support keep muscle and other soft tissue flexible and balanced so our bodies have a reduced risk to injury – this means less injury, more consistent training and improved performances!

Rehabilitation/Recovery

  • Possibly the most common reason someone seeks massage is to help with the rehab or recovery from an injury, ache or pain. It is well accepted that the increased circulation and breakdown of adhesion and scar tissue can significantly help speed recovery.

Pre-event

  • A pre-event massage is a great way to get the soft tissue thoroughly stretched out; a pre-event massage can provide quiet time for thoughts to be focused and will often finish with some stimulation techniques to establish an alert and ready state of mind and body.

Post-event

  • Massaging strokes encourage the speedy removal of waste products after exercise which can speed the recovery and reduce possible next day or two or three soreness!!
