All my life I have enjoyed physical challenges, but the London Marathon was definitely the toughest. Before I went to University I was a professional tennis player so I felt confident that I could dedicate myself to the training required to run the London Marathon.
The charity I decided to run for gave me a training schedule to follow but I did not feel it was enough. As I did not train with anyone, there was no one there to push me further and get me running a quicker mile. I went to Stephen for help and to train me harder than I could train myself.
When I first spoke to Stephen I explained that I wanted to complete the London Marathon in under 4 hours. I had a mini bet with myself that if I fulfilled my goal then I would never have to run the marathon again. At the time I was running a ten minute mile and on course to complete the marathon near 4 1/2 hours. The sessions that Stephen put me through were tough, challenging and exhausting but well worth it. Within no time at all I was down to a near 9 minute mile.
Thanks to him I managed to complete my goal of running the London Marathon in under 4 hours and I am so grateful to him for all his help and expertise. His knowledge and assistance was incredibly helpful and needed especially for a novice who did not know what to expect.
Thank you Stephen.

The most outstanding element of Chris’ training was his focus, a fact no doubt attributable to his tennis playing heritage. When I started training Chris he was already running and wanting to get a sub 4 hour marathon.
During our sessions we were able to combine discussing nutrition and race strategies, as well providing plenty of core training. Of course we progressively raised the work rate to make the sessions more challenging and push Chris to develop his basic endurance, strength and speed.
Of course the proof of the pudding is in the eating and it was great to hear that Chris achieved his goal. It was fantastic to help Chris achieve his bet, and whilst he doesn’t have to run a marathon again I’m making sure he keeps moving.
Well done mate.
